The 31st Anniversary of the Lee County Cotton Festival had a wet weekend .Everyone still enjoyed the great food, along
with Sunset Band playing in the rain downtown .Our crafters braved the cold on Saturday to make sure everyone in Lee
County had a marshmellow shooter. Thanks to the Crafters , Food Vendors and Pleasant Valley Stables for our carnival for
hanging in there with us to have a festival. You guys were great.
We had an excellent parade, everyone I spoke with downtown Saturday just raved and raved. A special thank you to our
Grand Marshall – Our own Kristen Van Dyke from WPDE Channel 15. Each of our winners received a trophy for their efforts
and here is that list of parade winners:
Grand Marshal Award – McCoy Nursing Home
Chamber of Commerce Award- Brockshore Abby
Best Walking Unit – Lee Central High School Band
Best Decorated Golf Cart – Carl Watts
We also had a window-decorating contest for our merchant’s downtown. If you haven’t slowed down to look at the display of
colorfully decorated windows, you are missing out on some very creative and attractive displays of fall color. This year’s
winners were:
First Place – McLeods Pharmacy
Second Place – The Little Florist
Third Place – The Hidden Gardens Cafe`
Honorable Mention- Curves
Honorable Mention - SC Cotton Muesuem
This entire event would not have been possible without our sponsors!

If you have never been on the planning side of an event, big or small, there are lots of volunteers that work for months
behind the scenes. I cannot thank my volunteers enough for all of their hard work and giving up their weeknights to come
to meetings and get everything in order to create such a large community event.
My undying gratitude goes to the following volunteers for their dedication all the way until late Saturday night.

Not only does this event take volunteers, it also takes coordination with lots of different entities within Bishopville. First
and foremost, I want to thank City Council for their willingness to allow me to have the festival downtown. I trust they were
pleased with the outcome. Thank you to Food Lion and Gayle Kerr of Bishopville Tire for allowing us to use their parking lots
for staging the parade. We have to thank Dr. Currie for allowing us to use his cattle gate to keep people away from the
electric panel box.
A standing ovation goes to Chief John Ewing and his efforts with the SC State Guard, his city officers and the sheriff
deputies who pulled together to keep downtown safe and secure throughout the weekend. They were wonderful to work
with, very accommodating and really helped us with getting traffic re-routed and making sure the crowds of people felt safe.
I appreciated their professionalism and their willingness to help us. A special thank you to Cheif Ewing and his officers for
getting called out early to escort the Coca-Cola Classic 5k run on Sat. morning at 7am (sorry guys).
Mike Bedenbaugh and his crew for letting us use their generator to provide power for our food vendors. We certinaly could
not have done it without you.
I trust that I haven’t forgotten anyone, and I apologize if I did. Lastly, thank you to Lee County for supporting us on this
momentous 31st anniversary of our Lee County Cotton Festival. It won’t soon be forgotten.

Join us for the Lee County Cotton Festival! Keep checking back for more details ...
